Travelling North

Travelling the Alaska Highway

The Play Travelling North, created by Anna Hamilton, evokes essential components of the experience of the Yukon. I won't tell you the story but I will remind you a few facts. Travelling the Alaska Highway has always been one of the best way to understand the geography of the Yukon, "Canada's last frontier". The Yukon is like an island. An ocean of mountains and rivers separates the territory from the "outside", the rest of the world. Driving from Dawson Creek, BC to the Yukon is a travel in time. The highway is a minuscule thread of civilization crossing a huge chunk of prehistoric land. You will admire awesome scenery and dozens of bisons, caribous, bears and elks will certainly cross your path. Don't drive too fast! The legend of this road is still alive and well. Today, like yesterday, you can expect to meet your share of weird people and strange situations along the road. And, yes, going North could change your life! Go see the play Travelling North if you are a Yukoner, it will bring back good memories. It will be held in Whitehorse at the Guild Hall, May 12, 14 and 16.
